Better The bowl

As a natural pet shop, of course we are huge advocates for raw feeding, BUT that doesn’t mean we judge anyone for what they feed. After all a fed dog is a happy dog right?
If you feed kibble or wet food that’s ok! But did you know there are ways you can boon boost your dogs diet without having to feed raw or take up loads of freezer space?
Below are a few things that can help boost your dogs health without breaking the bank or stealing all that precious freezer room.
Bone broth
Pouring bone broth over your dogs kibble adds hydration, is packed full of vital nutrients such as:
· Collagen
· Glucosamine
· Chondroitin
· Natural gelatine
These nutrients help your dogs gut, skin, joints and all around health.

Oily fish
Oily fish can be given as a yummy treat or included as part of their meal, we recommend:
· Frozen whole fish such as sprats/sardines/mackerel
· Dried fish – dried sprats for example
· Tinned sardines/mackerel (only in spring water)
· Avoid fish oils as they can contain heavy metal toxins and they don’t last very long which can have the opposite effect.
Small Oily fish are fantastic bioavailable sources of Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA) which help support brain, eye, skin, heart & gut health along with helping to defend against the big C!
Eggs
Eggs are another cheap addition to your dogs food bowl. They contain almost ALL the essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids a dog need!
They can be fed completely raw or you can give them soft boiled (3 mins in boiling water). You can even feed the shell which is a great source of calcium, and the membrane is a fab source of collagen, protein, hyaluronic acid and more!
Fruit & Veg
Many fruits & veg are just as good for our dogs as they are us! If your dog struggles with yeast it is best to avoid fruits and starchy veg as these can be high in sugars.
If feeding veg, it is better to feed chopped and/or lightly steamed to allow your dog to absorb the full amount of nutrients available. Some fruit and veg which are perfect additions include:
· Broccoli
· Garlic (yes really!)
· Celery
· Avocado (only feed the flesh)
· Blueberries
· Kale
· Cranberries
· Cucumber
· Tomatoes
All of the above are fantastic additions to any dogs diet, whether they have a diet or raw, kibble or cooked food!
